Everything starts with a beginning and parental controls is no exception.
Recently, a very smart person at PortsProduct Lab reminded me that not all children can easily have their Social Media, TVs or game consoles controlled by well minded parents.
That is why I always say to start young, probably before they receive their first digital device.
This because they will carry their bad habits with them to new devices such as from a smart phone to a tablet or vice versa. Parents also need to be aware that their children will take their cues from them, such as binge watching Netflix shows, looking at their phone when someone is talking to them or using a phone through dinner.
That is why a family agreement is recommended so that children know their responsibilities, and parental expectations up front and early. According to Google "A family media agreement is an agreed family plan about how you, as a family, will deal with computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, e-readers and so forth. Some parents may call this type of agreement a family media agree- ment; a family tech plan, a technology agreement, or a phone contract." Also, the younger this idea of responsible screen time usage is started the better all parties will be. Most parents try to implement controls too little too late and are met with resistance.
